Visualization of financial performance (7D plot)
(download Grapheur sample file)
Data:
each data row contains indicators of financial performance for a specific stock, bond, currency, etc.
Objectives of data mining and visualization:
- To analyze a large set of financial performance data by filtering the raw inputs (approximately 50 indices obtained from Bloomberg.com or similar services), to obtain about six-seven different performance indicators.
- To visualize up to seven indicators at the same time on the screen, by using three X,Y,Z coordinates of rotating orbs in three-dimensional space, the size, color and shape of each orb, and the frequency of blinking.
- To rapidly identify relevant changes in performance by putting thresholds and having blinking orbs when they are surpassed by the specific indicator
Grapheur sample visualization(s): 7D plot
The 7D plot tab displays data in a way that enhances the basic scatterplot visualization. In particular, up to seven different values can be jointly represented by associating each one to one of the following features:
- X coordinate
- Y coordinate
- Z coordinate
- Shape (different shapes are associated to different intervals of the associated coordinate)
- Color
- Size
- Blinking (a variable threshold can be selected, if the value of the specified coordinate is above threshold, the point is blinking)
The automated rotation feature (obtained by pressing key ''A'') is activated by default, providing a more intuitive 3D view. Another click of the ''A'' key stops the rotation.
The navigation buttons on the right can be used to change the point of view. Parallel coordinates can be used to filter the displayed orbs, a click on a single orb opens a window with data associated to a specific company.
